One of the best travel places in India – shivpuri is a district in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. It is a scenic place with a national park and two huge lakes.

History

Shivpuri was the summer capital of Scindia rulers. It was a dense forest and during Mughal and Scindia’s it was hunting ground for the kings and princes…. It is said that During reign of emperor Akbar lot of elephants were captured from here.  Tigers were hunted by Mughal’s, Scindia’s and Britishers…. and today the place is devoid of any…  Narwar is another historic town in the district. The place has a long history and is also mentioned in epic Mahabharat.

Road Distance from Delhi: 465 kms

Route: New Delhi – Yamuna Expressway -> Agra -> Dholpur -> Muraina -> Gwalior -> Shivpuri

Nearest Railway Station: Gwalior – 118 kms and Jhansi – 100 kms

What to See and Enjoy….

1. Madhav National Park – Hire jeep from Tourist Village or take your own car… Enjoy the nature… there are no tigers here…

2. Boat Ride in Sakhya Sagar Lake – Boat club is run by MP Tourism…. Hire a boat from Tourist Village… and take a boat ride in the lake… remember the lake is inhabited by Crocodiles…. you can see few sun bathing on the shores of the lake..

3. Badhaiyan Kund – take a dip in the water here… it is believed to cure skin diseases… it is adjacent to Tourist Village…

4. Survaya ki Garhi – do not forget to visit survaya ki garhi…. around 18 kms from shivpuri on Jhansi Road… a historical site maintained by Archaeological Survey of India…

5. George Castle – Located inside the park… built in 1911 by Scindias for Geroge V for his tiger hunting expedition in the park…. pack some tea and snacks…. take a break at castle and enjoy your tea in the mid of the jungle….

6. Cenotaph (Chhatri) of Scindias – visit Chhatri of Scindias….. enjoy the architecture and learn about the history…

7. Narwar Fort: Visit ruins of Narwar Fort…. about 44 kms from Shivpuri…. The fort is being renovated by Archaeological Survey of India…

8. When tired…. enjoy swimming in the pool……..
