Cenotaph are called Chhatri in hindi. Chhatri means canopy or umbrella. Vyas Chhatri in the city of Jaisalmer are an excellent example of Rajasthan Architecture. Cenotaph are made as symbolic mark of respect for the royal ones after they died and were cremated. Made of Sandstone, the site offers beautiful view of the fort and the city. It is also famous as sunset point. The area is serene and some time can be spent during morning and evening.
The site is named after Sage Ved Vyas who wrote Epic Mahabharata. Vyas Cenotaph is the cremation ground of Brahmin community. There is another one named Bada Bagh (Big Garden), which lies 6 kilometers from the city on the route to Ramgarh ans is the cremation ground of Royals.

Enjoy your visit in the early morning or evening. The pale sunlight falling on the red sandstone provides a lovely view.
Though this is a cremation ground but the architecture of the Cenotaphs is good to watch.
